Professor

Siti Salwah Salim received her B.Sc. (Hons) from Wichita State University, in the United States and PhD from the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (UMIST), United Kingdom in 1998. She is currently a Professor at Department of Software Engineering, Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology, University of Malaya, Malaysia. She supervises PhD and master’s students in the areas of requirements engineering, component based software development, human computer interaction, automatic speech recognition, and e-learning. She leads the Multimodal Interaction Research Lab for the high impact research grant on Multimodal Engagement for Children with Communication Disabilities. She has served as a committee member on many editorial boards and research grant screening committees.

Dr. Seyed Reza Shahamiri received the B.S. and M.S. degree in Computer Engineering – Software from Islamic Azad University (IAU), Iran in 2004 and 2007 respectively, and the Ph.D. in Computer Science from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) in 2011. After graduation, he pursued a one year post-doctoral fellowship at University of Malaya (UM) investigating and developing automatic speech recognition approaches for speech disorders. Dr. Reza is currently a Senior Lecturer at Department of Software Engineering, University of Malaya. His research interests include Artificial Neural Networks and Pattern Recognition, Software Testing and Reliability, Automated Speech Recognition, and Software Engineering. His research findings have been published in internationally recognized peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings.

Dr. Mumtaz Begum Peer Mustafa received the BSc. and MSc. in Software Engineering from University Putra Malaysia (UPM) and University Malaya (UM) in 2002 and 2006 respectively, and the Ph.D. in Computer Science from University Malaya (UM) in 2012. She was a researcher for a High Impact Research project in the area of Assistive technologies for speech impaired individuals. Dr. Mumtaz is currently a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Software Engineering, University Malaya. Her research interests include Emotional Speech Synthesis and Speech Assistive tools for disabled individuals. She has published her work in many of prestigious international speech conferences. Dr. Mumtaz is a member of The Institute of Electronics, Information and Communication Engineers (IEICE) organization and the member of International Speech Communication Association (ISCA).

Mr. Muhammad Umair Mughal has received his BS(CS) and MBA(MIS) from Virtual University of Pakistan. He also holds degree of MS(CS) from ISRA University, Pakistan. He is a freelancer, software engineer and also posses professional experience of more than six years in software development. Additionally he also served as a visiting faculty member at ISRA University, Pakistan. Mr. Umair is currently a Research Assistant at Department of Software Engineering, University of Malaya. His research interests include Computational Linguistics, Automated Speech Recognition, Database design & development and Software Engineering.

Noraini Mohamed received her B.Ed (Hons) in information technology and mathematic from University of Pendidikan Sultan Idris, Malaysia and M.Sc. in Computer Science from University of Malaya, Malaysia, in 2006 and 2011 respectively. She had 6 years of teaching experience at the Centre for Foundation Studies in Sciences, University of Malaya in programming language, algebra and statistics starting from 2006 until 2011. She then works as a research assistant for High Impact Research Project in the area of speech recognition for speech impaired and unimpaired speakers at the Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology, University of Malaya until now. Her research interests include Speech Recognition, Language Model and Error Correction.

Zohreh Dehghani received her undergraduate and graduate studies from the University of Isfahan, Isfahan, Iran in 2007 and 2010 respectively. Zohre has worked as a lecturer in the Medical Informatics (MI) department at the University of Isfahan since August 2011.She has taught courses such as information system analysis & design and Medial information Systems. Before teaching, Zohre worked as an information service manager, systems analyst and designer for more than five years (2006-2011) in International Systems Engineering and Automation Company (IRISA). She was involved in projects that merge human behavior and technology to enable better interactions in various systems such as marketing and interactive systems. Here are some of the projects on which she worked at the IRISA Company.

  • Human Resources Management System
  • Computerized Maintenance Management System(CMMS)- Mobarake Steel Company
  • Enterprise Resource Planning(ERP) System, Marketing Module

Currently, Zohreh is a research assistant in the Human Computer Interaction lab at the University of Malaya, Malaysia. She is working on Semantic web technologies including linked data and ontologies for recommender systems in digital libraries.
Her research interests are Human Computer Interaction, Context – aware computing, Social networking and Information seeking. Other than academic career, she has always followed some extracurricular activities such as doing Karate, hiking and reading classical novels and poems. Also, cooking is one of Zohreh’s favorites.

Kamran Khowaja is a Graduate Research Assistant under the Multimodal Interaction Research Group, Faculty of Computer Science and Information technology, University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. He is currently doing his PhD in the area of Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), focusing on the design and development of serious games for children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). He received his BCS (Hons) in Computer Science and MCS in Information Networks from Isra University in 2001 and 2003 respectively. He received his M.Sc in Computer Science with specialisation in HCI from the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), Thailand in 2006.

Fadhilah Rosdi is a SLAB Fellow in the Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology, University of Malaya. She is currently doing her PhD in University of Malaya, specialized in formal techniques in the automatic speech error detection. She received her BSc. in Information Technology from Kolej Universiti Teknologi Tun Hussein Onn and MSc. in Software Engineering from University of Malaya in 2005 and 2008, respectively. Her research interests include logic, knowledge representation and reasoning, speech processing.
